What is Lipedema
As lipedema grows in phases, the level of pain, pain, swelling and fat growth may change. The pictures below give an overview of the four levels of lipedema, indicating the position of fat shape up and resulting body structure in each stage. Dependent on the individual, different parts of the body may be affected in various ways in each stage. These pictures present the levels of lipedema as reported by Dr Amin Plastic Surgeon . The staging measures, although frequently applied, does not take into consideration feeling, magnitude, influence on joints, amount of mobility, or other impacts to quality of life. Different measures are sometimes used. LF would want to support research that determines the better way to present lipedema patients.
The precise frequency of lipedema is not understood because, now, we lack any identification or imaging tools that can reliably determine the existence of lipedema. Unfortunately, there are some general characteristics between the medical diagnosis of lipedema and the typical structure in which women tend to secure extra body fat. Different edema stimulating circumstances might be blurred with lipedema, including lymphedema, vein illness, hypothyroidism, and general cases of edema, like heart failure. Luckily, the probability of contagion (cellulitis) that is seen in lymphedema and chronic venous illness does not appear at lipedema. Yet, at later phases of lipedema, there is a definite tendency to create abnormalities in these other two circulations. Recent phase lipedema with lymphedema process is named lipolipedema, and with vein abnormalities, phlebolipedema.
Main Causes And Symptoms Of Lipedema
The lipoedema or elephant legs syndrome is a condition that occurs mainly in women, and causes abnormal accumulation of fat and fluid in the legs. There are many doubts that we will try to resolve below, related to the reason for the appearance of this chronic pathology, as well as the symptoms it causes and possible solutions.
What are the main causes of lipedema?
It is common to link lipedema with obesity, since more than half of women who are obese also have lipedema. However, these are different pathologies, and we cannot say that obesity is the main cause of the accumulation of excessive fat in the legs that gives rise to lipedema. Among the main reasons why this elephant leg syndrome can appear, we can find the following:
- Genetic predisposition: In many cases, patients have a history of lipedema in women in their family.
- Hormonal imbalances : lipedema problems usually appear during puberty, and can be aggravated both with pregnancy and with menopause.
- Hypothyroidism and obesity are factors that can aggravate lipedema and its symptoms.
What symptoms causes lipedema?
In addition to the increase in the volume of the legs disproportionately in relation to the rest of the body, there are other symptoms related to this disease:
- Inability to lose weight. Dieting or exercising will not eliminate the problem.
- Cold feeling and heaviness in the thighs.
- Greater sensitivity to pain in the area, which increases throughout the day.
- Appearance of bruises and pain on contact.
- Fragility of the hair of the legs. The hairs break easily and bruises appear.
All these symptoms can worsen in certain situations, such as when standing for too long, in times of excessive heat, during long trips that involve sitting, etc.
To treat this problem, it is best to go to a specialist to obtain a correct diagnosis and also offer possible solutions. The treatment must be individualized and adapted to each patient. The liposuction, for example, is one of the treatments we use in the clinic of the Dr. Amin treat such diseases, Specially Liposuction Lahore
